On 9 January 2015, H.E. Mr. Tomwit Jarnson, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan called on H.E. Mr. Afrasiab Mehdi Hashmi, the new Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.  Ambassador and Additional Secretary expressed satisfaction with the current close and cordial relations happily existing between the two countries. Last year, the exchange of visits between the two Prime Ministers further strengthened the bilateral relations. With regard to economic cooperation, both sides agreed to encourage more interaction between the private sectors to boost trade and investment. On educational cooperation, the number of the Thai students in Pakistan has increased. Currently, there are more than 70 Thai students in the International Islamic University, Islamabad. Moreover, Ambassador informed the Additional Secretary of his assumption of Chairmanship of ASEAN Islamabad Committee (AIC) for the term 2015 and expressed his readiness to work closely with the Pakistani side to enhance the relations between ASEAN and Pakistan.
